Nancy Heyman's Bio
To look at Nancy Heyman ’s engaging paintings, you would assume hers was the work of a full-time professional artist. But this handy brushwork is but one facet of Nancy Heyman ’s talents.
With a degree in Biology from Oberlin College (and a minor in Art), Nancy at one time spent her days hovering over a microscope and Petri dish as a lab technician at the Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York City after relocating from her hometown of Bethesda, Maryland.
She decided to explore her musical talents, playing guitar in an all-girl rock band called Cheap Perfume . The group became a major attraction in NYC during the heyday of the new wave and punk scenes in the late ‘70’s. She also tackled public relations, working for the Ramones , Dee Snyder , Wendy Carlos , Roger Clinton and others. She and Joey Ramone had a great rapport based on their shared love of ‘60’s rock’n’roll, especially the Beatles .
Eventually, Nancy took up the electric bass, playing in a band led by her husband, acclaimed singer/songwriter Richard X. Heyman . The Heymans took the indie route, recording and mixing albums at home, and Nancy learned the ever-changing art of audio engineering, lately becoming adept at the Logic Pro system.
An avid animal lover, Nancy has a real connection to and empathy with the subjects of her pet portraiture. Her street scenes capture the era, texture and complexity of the city.
Nancy lives on Manhattan’s Lower East Side with Richard and their family of felines.
